I’m leaving for Europe in 3 weeks and my to-do list is a mile long. We’ll be gone, my husband and I, for almost a month. I can scarcely believe it!
We’re embarking on a pilgrimage to Germany, the land where my 10th-great grandfather, Paul Gerhardt, lived during the devastating 30-years war in the 1600’s. Gerhardt is Germany’s most beloved pastor and hymn writer. Named as a man of consolation, his life is celebrated to this day. Hubby and I will linger in the churches where he pastored, witness the beauty that saved his soul, stand in the places of his birth and death, and give thanks for the many seeds he sowed.
In addition to this, we get to visit about a dozen precious friends scattered throughout Germany. We can hardly wait to wrap our arms around them again!
Lastly, we’ll sneak into Switzerland, the land where we were engaged some 37 years ago, to celebrate our anniversary.
Yay!!
That to-do list, though! Whew!!
Some of you know by now that God will not let me out of Matthew 6 and Jesus’ “do not worry” speech this year. As I was pulled into it yet again this morning, I found this little gem:
“Living faithfully is a large enough task for today” (Mt. 6:34 Voice).
Hm. Is that a to-do list I see there? And also, can I get an amen?!
I thumbed back to Matthew 6 and yes, there it was. Jesus’ to-do list for me. A honey-do list if you will:
Worry(v.25)Watch the birds, unfettered & free (v.26)
Go outside and look at the flowers (v.28-30, Message)
Relax & respond to God’s giving (v.30-33, Message)
Steep your life in God (go ahead and give it a good soak!) (v.30-33, Message)
Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now (stay in the present, sweetheart) (v.34, Message)
In case you didn’t catch it the first time, do not worry (v.34)
Live faithfully. Today. It is enough (v.34, Voice)
It is enough. Sigh. Amen. So be it. It’s off to Europe we gooooooo!!
Honey-Do: Our Little Life Words of the week
If this met you in a meaningful way, please consider supporting my words and work in the world with a small offering here. Thank you kindly!
REFLECTION & RESPONSE
Ponder:
What’s top of your list?
What might God’s honey-do list look like for you? How might you incorporate it into yours? And to what effect?
Practice:
Compare / Contrast your to-do list with the honey-do list of Jesus. What do you notice?
Add a minimum of 1 of Jesus’ honey-do list items into your daily to-do’s each day this week.
Play:
The song we’re playing is Loosen by Aly Halpert.
Pray:
Worry-free Jesus, remind me to do that which leads to life.
Thanks for this! These verses are such good reminders!
I love the idea of incorprating one of the things on Jesus's honey-do list to my to-do list each day!
Enjoy Germany!!
Thanks Jenny - I needed this today, especially the assignment to watch the birds, look at the flowers and stay present to what God is doing! So SO glad that you're off to Germany. Enjoy the opportunity to unhook and think new thoughts in new places, friend! 🤗
